About Meersbrook Park
Meersbrook Park sits on a steep hillside in the Meersbrook area, south of Sheffield city centre, and is famous for its panoramic views north over the city. It is a well-preserved Victorian municipal park, laid out after Sheffield Corporation bought the house and land in 1885 and opened the following years, and the landscape has remained remarkably intact ever since. It is managed by Sheffield City Council and is free to visit. For families there are two children's play areas: one playground at the top of the park and another, with an adventure play area, at the bottom, so there is somewhere to play whichever entrance you use. Alongside the playgrounds the park has a popular skatepark, football pitches, tennis and basketball courts and a bowling green. Two historic buildings stand within the grounds: Bishops' House, a timber-framed house from around 1580 that is one of the oldest buildings in Sheffield and now a community venue, and Meersbrook Hall. The main entrance and car park are off Brook Road. With its views, open grass, two playgrounds and skatepark, Meersbrook Park is a characterful free day out.
