About Graves Park

Graves Park is Sheffield's largest park, covering around 248 acres (about 100 hectares) of open parkland and ancient woodland in the south-west of the city, between Norton, Woodseats and Meadowhead. It was created between 1926 and 1936 when Alderman J. G. Graves bought and donated the land to preserve centuries-old woodland for the people of Sheffield, and it is now held by a charitable trust owned by Sheffield City Council. The park is a firm family favourite, offering two children's playgrounds along with a cafe, a shop and toilet facilities. Its best-known attraction is Graves Park Animal Farm, home to some of the rarest breeds of farm animals in the country, including Tamworth pigs, Highland cattle, Jacob sheep, goats, donkeys and waterfowl; the farm is free to visit and opens daily. Beyond the playgrounds and farm there are nature trails, woodland walks and a range of sports facilities including pitches, bowling greens and tennis courts. With so much space and a free farm alongside the play areas, Graves Park makes an excellent full-day family destination.
