About Heeley People's Park
Heeley People's Park — originally created in the 1990s as Heeley Millennium Park — is a large green space in Heeley, about a mile and a half south of Sheffield city centre. A local group came together to protect and transform what had been an unloved corner of the city, and it is now described as the largest community-run park in the country, cared for by residents and local businesses through the Heeley Trust. For families, the park's inclusive playground was given a complete refurbishment in 2020, with Timberplay creating an exciting, accessible design to engage the whole community; alongside the Playhouse there is an iconic Richter Spielgeräte snail that gives younger children a space for imaginative play. The park also has two climbing boulders, cycle tracks, picnic and play areas, a wildflower meadow, orchards and some excellent views across the city. There is a café and toilets on site. Spread across several linked sites, Heeley People's Park is a well-used space for Heeley residents and visitors to escape, be active, meet and play. It is free to visit and open as an unenclosed green space year-round.
