About Victoria Park

Victoria Park is a 69-acre public park just south-east of Leicester city centre, backing onto the University of Leicester and close to the railway station. Managed by Leicester City Council and free to enter, it was laid out in 1882 on the site of a former racecourse and is dominated by the Edwin Lutyens-designed Arch of Remembrance, a Grade I war memorial completed in 1923. For families the park has an adventure playground aimed at younger children and a second children's play area towards Victoria Park Road, along with a skate park that was added more recently. The park also offers facilities for a wide range of sports, including tennis, basketball, bowls, croquet, football and cricket, as well as large areas of open grassland used for outdoor events and a wildlife pond. A pavilion provides sports changing facilities and a cafe. Public toilets run along Centenary Walk and include accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility. The park is open 24 hours a day and its central location makes it one of the most accessible green spaces in the city for families, students and residents alike.
