About Spinney Hill Park

Spinney Hill Park is a historic community park in the east of Leicester, officially opened in 1886 and covering around 34 acres of sloping parkland on East Park Road. Managed by Leicester City Council and free to enter, it features tree-lined lawns and garden areas, a self-guided tree trail and plenty of open space for informal games. For families, the park has a children's play area and an informal games space, while older visitors can use the sports courts, tennis courts and bowling green or watch football and cricket on the pitches. The park is also used for community activities and as a walking and access route through the densely populated surrounding neighbourhood. Heritage features include a Grade II listed lodge from 1888, a granite fountain and a historic bridge. Accessibility is good, with most paths level and surfaced and step-free entrances from the surrounding streets giving access to the main walking routes and play areas. As one of the city's oldest surviving Victorian parks, Spinney Hill Park remains a well-used and much-loved green space for local families and residents.
