About Cranhill Park

Cranhill Park sits at the centre of the Cranhill housing scheme in Glasgow's East End and has long been described as the heart and lungs of the community. Managed by Glasgow City Council, the park historically featured an 18-hole pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts and a bowling green, and hosted an annual carnival with a visiting fairground until the mid-1980s. Today its facilities centre on The Beacon, a children's centre with a play centre for 5 to 12 year olds, together with a children's playpark, a basketball court and a skatepark. The park is also a protected habitat and is noted as the only known location for water voles on mainland Scotland. The Cranhill Area Partnership has sought to completely replace the playpark with a modern, accessible structure for children of all ages, and Glasgow City Council has said plans to improve the park are being looked at, with the presence of water vole habitat not ruling this out. Nearby stands the Category B listed Cranhill Water Tower, built in 1951, a local landmark. Cranhill Park is a genuinely community-focused green space combining play, sport and protected wildlife.
