About Tollcross Park
Tollcross Park is a 37-hectare park in Glasgow's East End, opened in 1897 after Glasgow Corporation bought the land from the Dunlop family. It is internationally known for its Rose Garden and its restored Winter Gardens, and in 2008 was voted the best park in Scotland. For families the highlight is Tollcross Children's Farm, set in a historic courtyard at the Wellshot Road entrance beside Tollcross International Swimming Centre. Entry to the farm is free and its animals include Shire horses, Shetland ponies, Highland cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, rabbits, ducks, chickens and an aviary. The farm is open Saturday to Thursday from 10am to 3.30pm and Fridays from 10am to 3pm. The park also has a children's play area for under 12s. One of the two bases of Glasgow's city-wide Countryside Ranger Service is here, running seasonal events and activities. The park is managed by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and open at all times, with the farm and other facilities keeping their own hours.
