About Alexandra Park
Alexandra Park is a 42-hectare public park in the East End of Glasgow, in Dennistoun about two miles east of the city centre. The land was bought in 1866 and laid out during an economic depression, when hundreds of unemployed artisans and labourers were employed on its construction; it opened in 1870, named after Princess Alexandra of Denmark. It is a popular park with local residents and the wider community. For families it has two play areas and a multi-purpose games court, together with an outdoor fitness gym. Other features include a boating pond, a historic fountain, bowling greens, a popular nine-hole golf course and a mountain bike course. The park is operated by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and open at all times, with individual facilities subject to their own opening times.
