About Witton Lakes

Witton Lakes is based around a pair of decommissioned drinking-water reservoirs - formerly the Upper and Middle Witton Reservoirs - which were completed in 1880 and are now maintained by Birmingham City Council as leisure amenities and nature conservation areas. The site works as a natural recreational amphitheatre in an urban setting, linked to neighbouring green spaces including a canal network and cycle route. One lake is used by model-boating enthusiasts while the other is managed to encourage wildlife, drawing a diversity of water birds. For families, points of interest include natural play spaces and the Velvet Community Orchard, and the Witton Lakes Eco Hub provides a cafe, toilet facilities and more. A 1.8km perimeter walk circles the water, the North Birmingham cycle route runs through the surrounding park, and there are wildflower meadows and woodland walks to explore. With its combination of nature-rich lakes, a community hub and natural play, Witton Lakes offers a relaxed, outdoorsy day out in north Birmingham.
