About Maryon Park Playground
Maryon Park is a hilly, wooded urban park in Charlton, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, overlooking the Thames. A former Charlton sandpit given to the public in 1891, it is now a Green Flag Award-winning site with paths and steps climbing to Cox's Mount, a tree-lined hilltop with views over London, the river and the Thames Barrier. The park has a children's playground along with a basketball court and hard-surface tennis courts; the playground and basketball court are free to use, and the tennis courts can be booked through the Royal Borough of Greenwich. There is also a community food growing area within the grounds. Maryon Park sits on the Green Chain Walk and the Capital Ring, and combined with adjoining Gilbert's Pit and neighbouring Maryon Wilson Park it forms part of a Local Nature Reserve declared in 2005. The park is well known as a filming location for scenes in Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 film Blow-Up. The park is freely accessible and managed by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, with access from Maryon Road in Charlton.
