About Millhouses Park

Millhouses Park is a busy urban park in south Sheffield, stretching for about three-quarters of a mile along the River Sheaf valley between Millhouses and Beauchief. It was created in 1907 when the 7th Earl Fitzwilliam gave land to the city, on the site of medieval mills and ironworks that once used the river's power, and by the 1930s it had grown into a full recreation ground. Today it is one of the most popular family parks in the city and is managed by Sheffield City Council. For children there is a traditional playground with climbing equipment, an adventure play area and a zip wire, plus a splash water play area that opened in 2010 and runs in the warmer months with fountains and water channels to splash in. Around the play areas families can hire paddle boats on the boating lake, use the skate park, tennis courts and putting course, or relax at the cafe. There is also a sensory garden, sports pitches and bowling greens, riverside paths and a pay-and-display car park. It holds a Green Flag award and makes a full day out, especially in summer.
