About Denehurst Park
Denehurst Park is a restored public park in Rochdale, managed by Rochdale Borough Council and holding a Green Flag Award. A major programme of works between 2016 and 2019 improved existing features and added new ones, and the park reopened with a strong emphasis on inclusive family facilities. Its centrepiece for families is an inclusive pirate-themed play area, opened at Easter 2019, which was designed in partnership with Redwood Special Educational Needs School. Both the toddlers' play area and the main play area are fully accessible by wheelchair, with features such as an accessible roundabout, a double-width springer in the toddlers' area, and a double-width slide with long ramp access in the junior area, making it one of the more genuinely inclusive playgrounds in the borough. Beyond the play area the park offers a restored formal garden, two fruit orchards with a scrumping lane, a Victorian-style stumpery and a wildflower meadow, giving plenty to explore. Good tarmac paths serve the core areas, while gravel paths lead through the wildlife sections. There is free onsite parking with three accessible bays accessed from Edenfield Road, but there are currently no toilets in the park. Guide dogs are welcome. Entry is free.
