About Springfield Park

Springfield Park, established in 1927, is the largest public park in the Rochdale borough, covering around 42 acres between Rochdale and Heywood at Marland. Managed by Rochdale Borough Council, it achieved its first Green Flag Award in 2024 in recognition of being a well maintained public green space. The park is built around a central lake and offers an unusually wide range of facilities for a single site. For families there are two separate children's play areas plus a multi-use play area, giving plenty of choice for different ages. Sporting provision is extensive, including tennis courts, an athletics track, playing fields for football and cricket, an outdoor gym and the 18-hole Marland Golf Course on adjoining land. Nature lovers can explore grassland, wetland and wildlife areas, and there is even a beekeeping area within the grounds. Practical facilities are strong, with a free onsite car park and toilets available, making it a convenient destination for a longer family visit. On summer weekends a miniature railway has historically operated in the park. Guide dogs are welcome. Entry to the park is free.
