About Becket's Park

Becket's Park is a traditional park on Bedford Road, forming a green gateway into the centre of Northampton along the banks of the River Nene, and it is cared for by West Northamptonshire Council. The park is free to access at all times and its flat, paved paths run throughout, making it an easy, buggy-friendly spot for families and well suited to balance bikes and scooters. For children there is a play area, and older children and teenagers are catered for by a skate park. The riverside setting gives the park plenty of character, with promenade walks following the Nene and open green space for picnics and play. Alongside the play facilities, Becket's Park has tennis courts that can be booked and a bowling green that was added in the mid-1920s, reflecting its long history as a town recreation ground. A local volunteer group, the Buddies of Becket's, is active in helping to maintain and improve the park. There is no dedicated car park within the park itself, but there is a council car park nearby at Midsummer Meadow on Bedford Road, where parking charges apply; current prices are shown on the council's car parks map. As with all West Northamptonshire parks, barbecues and fires are not permitted. Its central riverside location makes it a convenient green space for families combining a visit with a trip into town.
