About Victoria Park

Victoria Park is a historic public green space in the St James' End district of Northampton, less than a mile from the town centre, and the town's second-oldest designated park. Half of the park was gifted to the town by Earl Spencer in 1898, with a further eight acres purchased in 1910 to 1911, creating a green space of around sixteen acres. The park was upgraded in 2007 as part of a major regeneration project, which brought new play equipment, lighting, landscaping, footpaths, park furniture and youth facilities, giving the park a fresh lease of life. The children's play area is a particular feature, with large stone pieces set into an area of rubberised safety matting that act as a climbing facility for youngsters, alongside other play equipment. The wider park offers open grassed areas, lines and belts of trees and watercourses, including a tributary of the River Nene and the Dallington Brook, making it a pleasant spot for walks and informal play. Its setting in an established residential neighbourhood makes it a well-used local park for families. The park is free to access. Specific details of toilets, parking and refreshments are not confirmed from official sources, so visitors may wish to plan ahead. The mix of heritage, mature greenery and a distinctive climbing-focused play area gives Victoria Park its own character among Northampton's parks.
