About Abington Park
Abington Park is Northampton's oldest and most popular public park, cared for by West Northamptonshire Council and free to visit all year round. At its heart is a children's play area with swings and a roundabout set on safety surfacing, which was refurbished in recent years after the well-used climbing frame and matting had worn out. The play area sits close to the park's main facilities, making it an easy focal point for a family day out. Beyond the playground, the park offers a rich mix of attractions. Abington Park Museum occupies a 500-year-old former manor house, and there are two lakes, one of which is used for model boating. Sports and activity facilities include tennis courts, an eight-piece fitness trail and a bandstand that hosts events through the summer, while the Church of St Peter and St Paul stands within the grounds. There is also a garden designated for the blind, reflecting the park's long history as a community green space. Public toilets sit on the south side of the park, next to the Park Cafe and the bowling greens; the cafe serves drinks, snacks and meals through the week. Fishing is permitted from dawn to dusk through the Abington Angling Club. Barbecues and fires are not permitted anywhere in the park.
