About Bill Quay Farm

Bill Quay Farm is a free-to-enter community farm set across 27 acres overlooking the River Tyne in Gateshead, just across the river from Newcastle. Opened in 1986 as a partnership between the community and the local council, it has grown into a well-loved spot for family visits and hands-on learning. The farm is home to a friendly mix of animals including alpacas, emus (one named Peeps), goats, pigs, sheep, lambs, chickens, ducks and geese, with rare and traditional breeds such as Tamworth and Large Black pigs and Bagot goats. Not only can you watch the animals, you can feed them too, with bags of animal feed available for around £1.50. The farm places a strong emphasis on being inclusive and welcoming to visitors of all abilities, and runs hands-on experiences covering animal care, horticulture and practical learning. An ice cream kiosk on site serves hot drinks, hot chocolate and snacks, though it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Open seven days a week with free entry, it makes for an easy, low-cost family day out with lovely views over the Tyne.
