About Ouseburn Farm
Ouseburn Farm is a free-to-enter community city farm in the heart of Newcastle's Ouseburn valley, run as a charity and open since 1976. Its fields and meadows are home to sheep, goats, pigs, a cow, chickens, ducks and rabbits, while indoors you'll find more unexpected residents such as guinea pigs, chinchillas, tortoises, geckos, snakes, degus, stick insects and parrots. Regular petting sessions run at weekends so children big and small can get hands-on, and the free sensory trail gives younger visitors something to follow around the site. The farm also runs a Farmers Club, Caring for Critters animal sessions and a sponsor-an-animal scheme. On-site Cafe Beam serves treats baked at the farm using home-grown ingredients where possible, and there's a small farm shop too. The building is fully accessible with a lift and ramps, though parts of the garden are a little uneven. Entry is free with donations welcome, making it one of the most enjoyable budget family days out in central Newcastle. Note the farm closes for a short winter break each year, so check before travelling in deep winter.
