About Holbeck Moor Park

Holbeck Moor is a large open green space in Holbeck, just south of Leeds city centre, and is often described as the closest substantial parkland to the heart of the city. Managed by Leeds City Council, the moor has a long and colourful history: it was the site of the 1936 Battle of Holbeck Moor, and today it serves as a well-used community space with sweeping views across to Elland Road football stadium. For families there is a children's playground with a swing, slide, roundabout and see-saw, while older children and teenagers can use the skatepark, which opened in 2012 and has ramps suitable for skateboards, BMX bikes and scooters. A multi-use games area provides basketball and football courts, and the wide moorland offers plenty of room for informal games, kite flying and walks. The council has secured funding through the Streets For People programme to make the surrounding Recreations area more people-friendly, with proposals for extra trees, planting, seating and improvements to the play area and skatepark. There are no toilets on the moor and the nearest is around a ten-minute walk away, but a chippy sits within the park area and there are pubs and takeaways nearby.
