About Maxwell Park

Maxwell Park is an elegant Victorian park in Pollokshields on Glasgow's southside, managed by Glasgow City Council. It opened on 25 October 1890 alongside the adjoining Pollokshields Burgh Hall, both connected to Sir John Stirling-Maxwell of Nether Pollok, who donated the land; the park was placed under the stewardship of Glasgow Corporation in 1891. Extending to about 8 hectares (roughly 20 acres), the park includes a small boating pond of around an acre, tree-lined avenues, planted and ornamental sections and large grassy areas. For families there is a fenced children's play area, while the open grass is used for football and cricket and the lawns are popular for picnics. At the edge of the park stands Pollokshields Burgh Hall, a Category A listed building completed in 1890 in the Scots Renaissance style and available to hire. Maxwell Park railway station on the Cathcart Circle line sits right beside the park, making it easy to reach without a car. A well-kept and much-loved green space, Maxwell Park blends heritage, gardens and family play.
