About Pollok Country Park
Pollok Country Park is Glasgow's largest park and the only designated country park within the city, set on the historic Maxwell family estate gifted to Glasgow by Anne Maxwell Macdonald in 1966 on the condition it stay public. Named Britain's Best Park in 2007 and Europe's Best Park in 2008, its 146 hectares of woodland, meadow and the White Cart Water make it feel properly rural despite being on the Southside. The children's play area was built in 2005 with wooden-construction equipment to suit the woodland setting and has since had a major refurbishment, with new climbing frames, slides, spinners, a wheelchair accessible roundabout, play houses, a sandpit and swings, plus added benches and picnic tables. Equipment offers adventurous and traditional play for children from toddler to young teenager. The park is also home to the world-famous Burrell Collection, Pollok House and gardens, an award-winning fold of Highland cattle, mountain bike trails and miles of woodland and riverside walks. It is managed by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and open at all times, with the museums and house keeping their own hours.
