About King's Park
King's Park is a 68-acre public park on Glasgow's Southside, in the district of the same name south of the River Clyde and bordering Croftfoot, Cathcart, Simshill, Mount Florida and Toryglen. Its centrepiece is Aikenhead House, a mansion designed by the architect David Hamilton and built in 1806 for a West Indies merchant. The estate was donated by housebuilders MacTaggart & Mickel for use as a public park in 1930 while they developed the surrounding residential district. For families there is a children's play park, located near the Kingswood Bowling Club on the edge of the park, within open parkland good for walks and play. Nearby green-space and flood-prevention improvements around Croftpark Avenue have added raingardens, woodland planting and better paths. The park is managed by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and open at all times, with individual facilities subject to their own hours.
