About Spylaw Park
Spylaw Park is a small, free public park in the historic village of Colinton in south-west Edinburgh, managed by the City of Edinburgh Council. It sits in a clearing in the woods on the riverbank of the Water of Leith, just off the main footpath through Colinton Dell, which makes it a natural stop on a riverside or woodland walk. The park was acquired by Midlothian County Council in 1911 for use as a public park. It is mostly grass, with flower beds, bench seating, picnic tables and some fine specimen trees, including tall conifers, varieties of holly, beech, yew and hornbeam and even a monkey puzzle. For families, the main attraction is a fenced children's play area for toddlers and juniors, with a group swing, a tyre swing, a cone climber and a climbing unit, set beside a large grassy area for running around. There is a small car park at the entrance under the bridge. Compact, green and close to the river and the Dell paths, Spylaw Park is a pleasant spot for families combining a short play visit with a walk along the Water of Leith.
