About Small Heath Park
Small Heath Park is the largest green space in Small Heath, about a mile from Birmingham city centre, and is managed by Birmingham City Council. Its history as a park dates to the late 19th century: the Small Heath estate was placed in trust to Birmingham in 1876 by the wealthy philanthropist Louisa Anne Ryland, and the 43-acre park - formerly known as Victoria Park - retains a traditional Victorian character. For families there is a children's playground and a separate toddlers' play area, making it suitable for a range of ages. A multi-use games area, funded by a grant from the England and Wales Cricket Board and approved for the council in August 2024, was resurfaced with the existing basketball hoops retained so it can be used for various sports and activities. The park occasionally hosts festivals and large community events. With its Victorian heritage, generous open space, dedicated toddler provision and refreshed sports facilities, Small Heath Park is a well-rounded destination for families in east Birmingham.
