About Kings Heath Park
Kings Heath Park covers around 35 acres in the Kings Heath district of south Birmingham and was the first urban park in the city to achieve Green Flag status. It is managed by Birmingham City Council and is built around a house dating from 1832; the surrounding land was sold to the local authority by the Cartland family and opened as a public park, becoming part of Birmingham in 1911. For families there are two playgrounds, one with swings, a slide and a seesaw for younger children, and one with a zip wire and climbing frame for older youngsters. The park is family-friendly and popular with dog walkers, runners and cyclists, with well-surfaced paths that are mainly flat but slope down to wooded areas, plus a two-kilometre walking route and a bowling green. Public toilets are located behind the Tearooms and open from 9:30am to 4pm in winter and 9:30am to 5pm in summer. The park has run a School of Horticultural Training since 1953 and was once used as the setting for the ATV gardening television programme.
