About Woodhouse Moor

Woodhouse Moor, by the Hyde Park area and the university district about a mile north-west of Leeds city centre, is often described as the first urban park in Leeds. The land was acquired by Leeds Corporation in 1857 and developed into a Victorian pleasure ground; today the 26-hectare (64-acre) site is managed by Leeds City Council and is one of the city's busiest green spaces. It is mostly open grassland with avenues of mature trees and several imposing Victorian statues, spread across the main moor plus Monument Moor and Cinder Moor. For families, the children's playground sits at the Hyde Park Corner end of the park, next to the skate park, and was completely re-done in summer 2023 with a mix of equipment suitable for both toddlers and older children. Alongside the playground there are skate and BMX facilities, a multi-use games area, a bowling green, tennis courts, allotments and formal gardens, and the park is the southern terminus of the Meanwood Valley Trail. With a refreshed playground and plenty of open space, it is an easy free day out.
