About Beckett Park
Beckett Park is a much-loved community park used by the residents of Headingley, Weetwood and Kirkstall. The sloping southern area of the park is owned by Wade's Charity and leased to Leeds City Council, whose parks department manages and runs it, with support from the Friends of Beckett Park. The land was originally part of Kirkstall Abbey's estate; in 1832 William Beckett bought it and renamed it Kirkstall Grange, and in 1908 Ernest Beckett sold it to Leeds Corporation. For families, the park has a children's play area on Batcliffe Drive with swings and slides, plus a skate park, tennis courts and outdoor adult exercise equipment. Children also enjoy the fairy garden, a secret garden created over time by visitors. The wider park is known for its extensive woodlands and nature trails, and it contains the Victoria Arch monument commemorating Queen Victoria's 1858 visit to Leeds. Beckett Park is a green, historic spot for a family day out in north-west Leeds.
