About Middleton Park
Middleton Park is a large green space in the Middleton area of South Leeds, about four miles from the city centre. Covering around 630 acres, including roughly 200 acres of ancient woodland, it was leased to Leeds City Council by Wade's Charity in 1920 for the people of the city and is managed by the council today. The estate's history runs back to the Domesday Book, and the woods once served the Middleton coal workings linked to the historic Middleton Railway, which still runs to a Park Halt station nearby. For families, the park has a well-equipped children's playground designed with both younger and older children in mind, with swings, slides and other play equipment. There is a visitor centre with a cafe and toilets, open daily on reduced hours, alongside a small lake, rose gardens and the Leeds Urban Bike Park. With extensive ancient woodland, open parkland and events such as parkrun, Middleton Park offers a lot to do beyond the playground and is a genuinely free local day out.
