About Peckham Rye Park Playground
Peckham Rye Park forms the southern, landscaped section of the wider Peckham Rye open space in the London Borough of Southwark; the land was bought by the London County Council and opened in 1894. The park's main children's play area was designed for children of all ages and was inspired by the Tumbling Bay Playground at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Its water play zone encourages children to use hand pumps to move water around streams and dams they can play in, with a push-button water spray for extra fun, plus a sand pit with little diggers. There is also a big climbing frame with tunnel slides, a variety of swings and comfortable seating for parents and carers. The surrounding park is known for its ornamental spaces, including a Japanese garden and the Sexby Garden. A separate adventure playground for older children and young people is also located in the park and is run by Southwark Council. Managed by the council, the park is free to enter and freely accessible during daylight hours year round.
