About Mesnes Park
Mesnes Park is the largest park in Newton-le-Willows, opened to the public in 1927 and managed by St Helens Borough Council, and a current Green Flag Award winner. Laid out as an urban park for the benefit of the whole community, it offers an unusually wide range of things to do. Families are especially well served, with three play areas for different ages plus a skate park and outdoor gym equipment close by. Older children and adults can make use of bowling greens, ball courts, tennis courts and football pitches, while quieter corners include woodland walks, a wetland area, habitat areas and a large wildflower meadow that is home to a statue of Victoria Cross recipient Private Norman Harvey. An outdoor performance area and a pavilion - home to the local bowls team, with changing rooms and an events hub - host community gatherings including the borough's biggest Town Show. Toilet facilities, picnic benches and car parking round out the amenities, so it is easy to spend a whole day here. Free to enter and generously equipped, Mesnes Park is a standout family destination in the east of the borough, combining active play, organised sport and peaceful natural areas in one large, well-kept green space.
