About Willow Park
Willow Park is a six-hectare green space in Newton-le-Willows, once part of the Legh family estates and now set within the town's conservation area and managed by St Helens Borough Council. It forms part of the Newton Heritage Trail, so a visit can be combined with a wider wander through the area's history. The park is made up of a network of tree-lined footpaths running through grass areas, woodland, amenity grassland and wetland, giving it a gentle, natural feel. For families, the main draw is the children's play area, a free and easily reached spot for younger visitors to burn off energy, with picnic benches nearby for a snack or a rest. A lake sits at the heart of the park and attracts a rich mix of birdlife including mistle thrush, goldcrest, coal tit, song thrush, moorhen, teal, coot, gadwall, grey heron and little grebe, making it a good place to introduce children to wildlife watching. Woodland walks link the different habitats together. As a quieter, more naturalistic park than the town's larger sports-focused spaces, Willow Park suits families who want fresh air, a safe play area and the chance to spot birds and explore woodland paths close to home in Newton-le-Willows.
