About Jubilee Park
Jubilee Park straddles Wigan Road (the A49) in Ashton-in-Makerfield and is managed by Wigan Council. It takes its name from Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee: when Lord Gerard officially opened the park in 1897 it coincided with the Jubilee, and the park was named accordingly. Covering around 8.5 acres across two pockets of land either side of the main road, it packs in a good variety of facilities for families. There are children's play areas for younger visitors, a basketball court and tennis courts for older children, grass pitches for team games, a woodland area to explore and a formal flower garden that gives the park a traditional, cared-for character. A pavilion on site provides toilets. As a long-established community park it suits anything from a short play session to a longer visit combining play, sport and a wander through the woodland and gardens. We don't have confirmed details on parking or a cafe, so it is worth planning refreshments ahead. Its free public access makes Jubilee Park a useful green space for families in the south of the Wigan borough.
