About Walsall Arboretum

Walsall Arboretum is the borough's flagship green space, a 170-acre Victorian park laid out around Hatherton Lake at the heart of Walsall town centre and managed by Walsall Council. First opened in 1874, it combines heritage landscape with modern family facilities. The children's play area includes inclusive equipment such as a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and an accessible nest swing, and sits alongside a popular water-play splash pad that runs on weekends, school holidays and bank holidays through the summer, from 11am to 5pm. Older children and teenagers have a free-to-use skate park, a multi-use games area and free table tennis tables. Beyond play, the Arboretum offers a bandstand, boathouse, fishing lake, bowling greens, a cricket pitch, football pitches and tennis courts, with a cafe and visitor centre on site. Access is excellent, with hard, flat tarmac paths at least 1100mm wide, over sixty benches, accessible duck-feeding platforms and fishing pegs, disabled toilets and blue badge parking. Free car parks lie at the Arboretum extension on Broadway North and The Crescent. It is one of the most complete days out for families in Walsall.
