About Sydney Gardens
Sydney Gardens is one of the UK's few surviving Georgian pleasure gardens, laid out in the 1790s in Bathwick and managed by Bath & North East Somerset Council. Following a £3.4 million restoration, a new children's play area opened in April 2023 with four zones catering for all ages and abilities. There is a central zone with a climbing frame, swings and slides, including an extra-high swing and double slides; an imaginative play area featuring a sham castle; a quieter area for younger children with sand and seasonal water play; and a sport area with basketball hoops, table tennis and a panna football court. The restoration also added a boules terrain and a free water refill point installed by Wessex Water alongside the play area. The gardens offer a peaceful, leafy setting that is especially well suited to families with younger children and those using prams. There is no charge for admission and the gardens are open at all times. A coffee kiosk is near the main entrance, and the Holburne Museum and its cafe sit at the Sydney Place end. Toilets include an accessible unisex toilet (20p) and a Changing Places facility.
