About Fort Royal Park

Fort Royal Park sits south-east of Worcester in the Cathedral Ward, with its main entrance on Wylds Lane. The site is of critical historical significance as the location of the 1651 Battle of Worcester, the final battle of the English Civil War, and was later visited by future US presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. For families, its main draw is a fantastic playground with innovative, imaginative play equipment designed for a range of age groups. The first area, for younger children, replicates a civil war period farm homestead and includes swings, a slide and small pieces of equipment for climbing and role play. A second area for older children features a web-like climbing structure leading to a third area with a fort and slide, and there is a multi-use games area (MUGA). Visitors can also follow the Fort Royal Memory Trail, a smartphone-activated treasure trail of seven brass QR-code plaques that link to videos of local people's memories. The park adjoins the Commandery Gardens. There is no on-site car park: the council asks drivers to use the nearby King Street (Sidbury) or Commandery Road pay-and-display car parks, both a five-minute walk away. Fort Royal Park is a Green Flag Award winner and entry is free.
