About High Hazels Park

High Hazels Park is a historic 20-hectare park in Darnall, in the east of Sheffield. The land and house were bought by the city from the Duke of Norfolk and Messrs Jeffcock in 1894 for £10,875, and the grounds opened as a public recreation ground in 1895, quickly earning a reputation as one of the finest parks in Sheffield. Today the park is run as a charity for which Sheffield City Council is sole trustee, with the running costs funded by the council, and it remains free to visit. For families there is a children's playground, an adventure playground and a sensory garden, while the wider park offers a cricket pitch, a 5-a-side football pitch and tennis courts. A cafe serves visitors, and the mature trees, slopes and lawns around the former High Hazels House give the park a green, open feel. Its mix of play areas, sports facilities and Victorian parkland makes it a well-used local space for the surrounding communities of Darnall and Tinsley.
