About Robroyston Park

Robroyston Park is a large green space and Local Nature Reserve in Robroyston, in the north-east of Glasgow, managed by Glasgow City Council. Covering around 50 hectares, it has an attractive wild character made up mainly of rough grassland, wetland, ponds and planted trees, and the northern half is designated a City-wide Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. The park's wildlife interest has grown over the decades: a series of pools was created in the north of the park in 1996 and later fitted with a sluice system to raise water levels, while the southern pond dates from the 1980s and had an island added in 2002 to provide safe nesting for waterbirds. Little grebe have been present on the pools since 1998 and first bred successfully here in 2002, and the varied habitats support a rich diversity of wildlife. For families there is a children's play area, and walking paths thread through the grassland and around the ponds. Combining a play park with ponds, wetland and open countryside feel, Robroyston Park is a free, public green space and valued wildlife site for north-east Glasgow, with its play area included in the city's play area renewal programme.
