About Stewart Park
Stewart Park is a 120-acre expanse of parkland, mature woodland and arboretum in Marton-in-Cleveland on the southern edge of Middlesbrough. Once the estate of ironmaster Henry Bolckow, it was bought by Councillor Thomas Stewart and opened to the public in 1928, and has held Green Flag status continuously since 2017. The large children's play area is a highlight, with swings, an adventure climbing area, a trim trail, outdoor table tennis and a climbing frame themed on HMS Endeavour, Captain James Cook's ship. The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum stands within the park, marking the famous explorer's 1728 birthplace, and a pets' corner is home to fallow deer, highland cattle, llamas, goats, peacocks, pheasants, rabbits and guinea pigs. Lakes attract geese, moorhens, coots and ducks, while nature, heritage and tree trails wind through the grounds. Two cafes, Cook's Cafe and Henry's Cafe, serve refreshments, and there are toilets open from 9am to 5pm plus an on-site car park. The park is open every day from 7:30am to 7:30pm, and entry is free.
