About Newsham Park Playground
Newsham Park was one of Liverpool's earliest municipal parks, designed by Edward Kemp and opened in 1868 across about 121 acres of the former Newsham estate. Now listed at Grade II* on the National Heritage List, it is arranged around two lakes — a boating lake and a fishing lake — with broad open lawns, mature trees and sports pitches. The grand buildings on its edge, including the former Liverpool Seamen's Orphanage, are part of its Victorian story. For families there is a children's playground with swings, a roundabout, a see-saw and a spinning dish, while the Lake View Kiosk beside the boating lake is handy for a drink or ice cream.
