About Burnholme Green
Burnholme Green is a 1.5-acre public green space created by City of York Council in the Burnholme area on the east side of the city, opened in autumn 2025 alongside a development of Passivhaus homes delivered through the council's Housing Delivery Programme. The green was designed to serve both the new residents and the established local community, and it is laid out around a network of paths dotted with benches, with meadows and coppices of newly planted trees, including hazels, winter-flowering cherry and oak, and wildflower areas seeded to support pollinators. For families the main draw is play and exercise: there are five areas of play and fitness equipment that link together to form a trail, with provision intended for a range of ages so that children can play while adults use the outdoor fitness equipment. Because it is a recently opened neighbourhood green rather than a large formal park, it does not have its own cafe or toilets, and it works best as a local space for everyday play, walking and informal exercise. It sits close to the Centre @ Burnholme and Burnholme Sports Centre on Mossdale Avenue, giving the area a combined hub of green space and indoor leisure facilities.
