About People's Park
People's Park is a Green Flag Award-winning green space on the edge of Luton town centre, made up of three connected areas: the Bells Close recreation ground, a sloping hillside leading into woodland, and Popes Meadow. It is free to enter and is designated a County Wildlife Site, home to the rare Great Pignut plant. For families, the main attraction is at Bells Close, which has a modern children's playground along with a trim trail and exercise equipment that are well used by families and people keeping active. The recreation ground is popular for football and cricket, while the woodland forms a natural link between the main park and Popes Meadow. Popes Meadow itself is an open grassy slope rather than a play area, but it is much loved locally as a spot for sledging in snowy weather and is the setting for the council's annual November fireworks display, which draws visitors from across the town. There is a car park on Havelock Road with 14 spaces, including two disabled bays for blue badge holders. With its mix of modern play, fitness facilities, sports space, wildlife-rich meadows and woodland, People's Park offers a varied day out close to the heart of Luton.
