About Wardown Park

Wardown Park is a historic Grade II listed green space beside the River Lea on New Bedford Road, a short distance from Luton town centre, and is free to enter. Often called the jewel in the crown of Luton's parks, it combines restored heritage features with plenty for families to do. At its heart is Wardown House Museum and Gallery, set in a Victorian mansion, surrounded by lakes, a boating lake, formal gardens, a bandstand and a suspension bridge. For children there is a play area with climbing frames and slides, swings, a roundabout and spring riders, giving younger and older children plenty to explore. Alongside the free play there is adventure golf, tennis courts and a basketball court, as well as wide open areas for informal recreation, picnics and walks along the water. A cafe kiosk and public toilets serve visitors. The West Lodge entrance on New Bedford Road offers level access into the park, with ramped access at other entrances, and the council has been carrying out works to improve access and wildlife habitats across the site. With its mix of history, water, gardens and play, Wardown Park is one of Luton's best-loved spots for a family day out.
