About Baxter Park

Baxter Park is a historic Victorian public park in east Dundee, gifted to the city by the mill-owner Sir David Baxter and his sisters and laid out by Sir Joseph Paxton, opening in 1863. Set across around 38 acres of mature parkland reached through grand entrance gates on Bingham Terrace, it is centred on an Italian Renaissance-style pavilion, a Category A listed landmark that now houses a cafe and registry office. The park's play provision was fully upgraded in 2025 with a fantasy-village theme designed by the council to encourage children to explore, create and problem-solve, with accessibility and inclusive play built into the design. Across its two fenced play areas children will find junior and cradle swings, a climbing frame with slide, a supernova roundabout, an inclusive roundabout, spring and rodeo features, an embankment slide and rubber boulders, laid on wetpour and bark surfacing. An agility trail with balance beams, monkey bars and rope bridges adds older-child challenge, and there is also a multi-use games area, an outdoor gym and three sports fields. Toilets are in the pavilion, parking is on surrounding streets, and the park is free to enter and open year-round.
