About Howe Park Wood
Howe Park Wood is an ancient woodland in the south-west of Milton Keynes, near Westcroft and Tattenhoe, cared for by The Parks Trust and free to enter. As one of the oldest surviving habitats in the area, it is a rich wildlife site with mature trees, bluebells in spring and a network of accessible footpaths. For families there is a free natural play area designed for younger children and toddlers, set on a woodchip surface and featuring stepping stones, a balance beam, a small climbing frame with a crawl tunnel and a slide; the area is not enclosed. The wood is served by the Howe Park Wood Education Centre, which acts as the main entrance and hosts guided walks, school-holiday activities and nature talks. The on-site Grounds Cafe serves hot and cold food and drinks, with toilets, including an accessible toilet, available during cafe hours. Hard-surface footpaths run through the wood, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and there is seating and picnic tables throughout. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads all year round to protect the wildlife. Free parking is available at the main entrance (MK4 3GG) and at a second car park off Howe Rock Place (MK4 3BX), both with electric car charging. It is a calm, nature-focused destination ideal for families with younger children.
