About Caldecotte Lake

Caldecotte Lake is a large twin-lake parkland in the south of Milton Keynes, cared for by The Parks Trust and free to enter. Originally created as a balancing lake to control floodwater, it has matured into a popular place for walking, cycling, fishing and watersports. A hard-surfaced gravel path runs right around the whole lake, making it a well-used circuit for families, joggers and buggies. For children there is a free play area at the site, which is managed by Milton Keynes City Council. Other attractions include a fitness trail on the south lake near Caldecotte Business Park with eight pieces of exercise equipment, and a miniature railway run by the Milton Keynes Model Engineering Society that operates on selected days. The lake is a base for rowing, sailing and canoeing clubs, has fishing pegs and bird hides for wildlife watching. There are no public toilets on site, but customer toilets are available inside Hickory's Smokehouse, a family-friendly restaurant beside the lake. Free car parking is available at several points around the lake, including the H10 Bletcham Way car park, which has accessible parking, and Monellan Grove, with a pick-up and drop-off point near The Caldecotte pub (MK7 8HP). It is a relaxed, open destination combining play, sport and wildlife.
