About Blockhouse Park

Blockhouse Park, formerly Mount Pleasant Park, is in the Stoke area of Plymouth and occupies the highest point in the city at around 70 metres, giving it panoramic views across Plymouth. It is a steep, hillside park with steps in several places and seating placed throughout so visitors can pause to take in the scenery. For families there is a small playground with a few different pieces of equipment, including swings, a slide and climbing play units, laid out on a safety surface and enclosed by dog-proof fencing to keep the play area clean and safe for children. Next to the play area is a mini football pitch for informal kickabouts. The park also has a community centre and a network of paths that make the most of the stunning views, giving it a strong local, community feel. Because of its steep terrain, it is less suited to wheelchairs and prams than some of the city's flatter parks, but it rewards visitors with its outlook. Blockhouse Park is accessible by public transport, with bus stops along Devonport Road to the south, and parking is available on adjacent roads as there is no official car park. It is free to use and is managed by Plymouth City Council.
