About Devonport Park

Devonport Park is a Grade II-listed public park in the Devonport area of Plymouth and is the city's oldest formal public park, dating to the 1850s on former military land. Its adventure play area is split into zones for different ages, from toddlers up to older children, with timber climbing structures, swings and inclusive sensory play equipment; there is a separate, smaller area set aside for the youngest visitors. The park is rich in facilities and heritage, with a bowls green, tennis courts, community-built petanque pitches that are free to use, a heritage trail, the Soapbox Children's Theatre, and a war memorial to the 2,000 Devonport citizens who died in the First World War. At the centre of the park the Park Pavilion Cafe is a contemporary, eco-friendly timber building that acts as a community hub, with a popular cafe, changing facilities and public toilets. Wildflower meadows and open grassland make it a well-used spot for family outings and community events. Entry is free, and the park is owned and managed by Plymouth City Council.
