About Saughton Park

Saughton Park is a restored Green Flag park on the banks of the Water of Leith in the Saughton and Gorgie area of west Edinburgh, managed by the City of Edinburgh Council. Once the Saughton Hall Estate, it was bought by the council in 1900 and opened to the public in 1910, and famously hosted the 1908 Scottish National Exhibition. An £8 million restoration, funded by the National Lottery and Sustrans, earned it a Green Flag Award in 2020. For families the park has one of the best play areas in the city: a large, colourful, accessible 'Playground for All' split into toddler, sand and climbing zones, with a zip wire, basket swings, a sand pit and inclusive equipment such as a wheelchair-accessible trampoline and roundabout, designed for children of all abilities and ages. Right alongside is one of the largest and oldest skate and BMX parks in Scotland, plus a ball court and outdoor gym. The wider park offers restored formal and rose gardens, glasshouses, a restored bandstand, an athletics track, picnic areas, and a popular cafe with toilets and baby changing. Accessible, varied and free, Saughton Park is a top choice for a family day out.
