About Queen's Park

Queen's Park is a 60-hectare Victorian park on Glasgow's Southside, designed by Sir Joseph Paxton and named in memory of Mary, Queen of Scots, who was defeated nearby at the Battle of Langside in 1568. The land was bought by Glasgow Corporation in 1857 and the park developed as the city's third great public park. For families it has two play areas, including a dedicated toddler play area, with further play improvements planned by Glasgow City Council. Beyond the play areas, there is a boating pond and a smaller nature pond, manicured lawns and bedding, and quieter naturalised walks. The redeveloped Queen's Park Arena, on the site of the old bandstand, hosts family events and markets, and the hilltop flagpole offers sweeping views north across the city. There are tennis courts, a pitch and putt course, lawn bowls and a free weekly parkrun. The park is managed by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and open at all times, with individual facilities subject to their own opening times.
