About Woodthorpe Green Play Area
Woodthorpe Green is a council-run play area on Summerfield Road in the Woodthorpe suburb on the south-western side of York, managed by City of York Council. It sits on an area of open green beside the local shops, giving families a handy neighbourhood spot for free, unstructured play. The play area is equipped with a zip wire alongside a range of play equipment suited to different ages, so younger and older children can usually find something to enjoy; the surrounding green gives plenty of room to run around, kick a ball or picnic. Because it is a small local green rather than a large destination park, the focus is firmly on the play equipment and open space rather than extensive visitor facilities. It is open at all times and free to use. Its position next to the Woodthorpe shops makes it easy to combine a play session with a quick errand or a stop at the nearby cafe, and the Dringhouses and Woodthorpe ward's play provision, including this site, has seen investment in recent years. For families living in or visiting the Woodthorpe and Dringhouses area it is a convenient, no-cost place to let children burn off energy.
